About the Artist

JENNIFER JACOBSEN grew up in Hopkins, Minnesota, roughly twenty minutes from Minneapolis. As a child, she and her sister spent much of their time outside, exploring the woods and creeks near their home. Every summer brought new adventures; camping, canoing, horseback riding, fishing, or driving out to Montana to visit great uncle Eddie.... And in the wintertime, there was downhill skiing, skating and the amazingly fast innertube courses her father and uncles built through grandpa's apple orchard. But some of her fondest memories are of the countless hours she spent drawing beside her father, artist Terry Jacobsen. From the time she could pick up a crayon, he was there to offer instruction and encouragement; support which continued throughout his daughter's life. Her mother and father were guiding forces, always present for her every endeavor. They attended countless gymnastic meets, track meets and diving competitions. They supported her decision to be an exchange student, even though it meant watching their 18 yr old daughter travel to the Soviet Union for a year. They were supportive when she left for college in Duluth, MN, and again when she took a job training birds and relocated to Orlando, FL. As an artist, Jennifer prefers to draw from her imagination; painting creatures and scenes that could never be photographed. But the influence of nature winds through her work in a recurring undertone, tying each new piece together into a collection of images which aspire to provoke, inspire and challenge the viewer. And though her beloved father passed away in 2017, she carries on the lessons he taught her about art, love of the outdoors and the pursuit of dreams.

You can look at a picture for a week and never think of it again.  You can also look at the picture for a second and think of it all your life.
